Advanced Umts Receiver Chip Design Using Virtual Prototyping

چکیده
Development of complex System on Chip (SoC) for modern communication systems has become more and more challenging. A designer has to bridge the gap between the requirements of the system at algorithmic level and its cycle true hardware description; the latter being synthesised for an Application Specific Integrated Circuit. This development requires numerous sub-steps, i.e., numerous intermediate descriptions on different abstraction levels of the same system. One of those levels can be an architecture level description implemented purely in software in form of a Virtual Prototype. This paper shows how Virtual Prototyping has been integrated in a design flow by a consistent design methodology and what advantages in terms of design efficiency have been gained.

Rapid Prototyping Design of a 4×4 BLAST-over-UMTS System
BLAST techniques to increase the utilized bandwidth in commercial systems are currently feasible. This paper describes the design of a UMTS prototype, supporting four transmit and four receive antennas, achieving almost four times the capacity of a conventional system. Various parts of the transmitter and receiver are mapped on FPGAs and fast DSPs communicating via a specially designed communic...
متن کاملMODELING THE IMPACT OF PACKAGING DURING HIGH-LEVEL SYSTEM DESIGN: The Integration of Physical Partitioning Into Virtual Prototyping
As system designers strive to meet the conflicting objectives of cheaper, smaller, and faster electronic systems, the impact of packaging decisions on the design outcome is growing. As higher density systems become prevalent, virtual prototyping activities (functional decomposition, logical partitioning, hardware/software partitioning) must be integrated with physical implementation details at ...
متن کاملA Rapid Prototyping Method for Top-down Design of System-on-Chip Devices Using LPGAs
This paper proposes two methods for a rapid prototyping of top-down System-on-Chip(SOC) design using laser programmable gate arrays (LPGAs). The first one is a design flow of SOC consisting of four steps: concept-making, virtual-world prototyping, synthesis, and real-world prototyping. The steps can be undertaken individually or in tandem and provisional product models are transformed from uppe...
متن کاملDesign of a Low-Latency Router Based on Virtual Output Queuing and Bypass Channels for Wireless Network-on-Chip
Wireless network-on-chip (WiNoC) is considered as a novel approach for designing future multi-core systems. In WiNoCs, wireless routers (WRs) utilize high-bandwidth wireless links to reduce the transmission delay between the long distance nodes. When the network traffic loads increase, a large number of packets will be sent into the wired and wireless links and can...
متن کاملA direct-conversion receiver integrated circuit for WCDMA mobile systems
A prototype of a 3-V SiGe direct-conversion receiver integrated circuit for use in third-generation (3G) WCDMA mobile cellular systems has been completed. The goal of its design was to minimize current draw while meeting WCDMA receiver rf specifications with margin. The design includes a bypassable low-noise amplifier, quadrature downconverter, and first-stage variable-gain baseband amplifiers ...
